SRIJAN
Srijan / सृजन
What began as a curated solo exhibition became, in many ways, a festival of art, thought, and community.
Srijan, meaning Creation, was an ArtChachi-curated solo exhibition showcasing the magnificent works of eminent painter and sculptor Dr. Rita Sharma at Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir, Patna. The six-day show, held from 29 May to 3 June 2023, celebrated Dr. Rita’s 35 years and ongoing journey in visual art, where she carved out an unparalleled niche for herself.
An expressionist painter, Rita’s work moves through the literary aspects of symbolism, drawing her subjects from the deep human psyche to contemporary social issues, pointing towards the neuroses of the modern age. Her artworks are manifestations of imagination expressed through symbols — open to interpretation, inviting the viewer to uncover hidden realities within the forms.
The exhibition brought together a carefully selected collection of her finest works, allowing art patrons to witness layered canvases that explored the depths of the human psyche.
For a solo show in a tier-two city of India, the response was overwhelming. The footfall, conversations, and curiosity around the exhibition made it feel like a gathering of an evolved society — a space where art enthusiasts from different age groups, industries, and walks of life came together.
Srijan was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Art & Culture, Government of Bihar. The closing ceremony was equally special, with two book releases authored by the artist and curator, released by the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of Bihar. The show was graced by Padma Shri awardees, writers, thinkers, journalists, performers, learned politicians, and cultural practitioners.
For ArtChachi, Srijan remains one of the most important milestones — a reminder that art can still gather people, create dialogue, and turn a city into a thinking, feeling, witnessing space.
